Louis Phillip "Cy" Seifert

Louis Philip "Cy" Seifert, a respected veteran and family man, passed away peacefully of natural causes Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, in Columbus, Georgia.

Cy was born May 25, 1926, in Tiffin. He led a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones and country.

Cy grew up on a family farm in Tiffin where he was one of 17 siblings. His early years instilled in him a strong work ethic and knack for hands-on tasks that would serve him throughout his life. At the tender age of 18, he volunteered to join U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Japan with the 11th Airborne Division. His military journey continued as he reenlisted in the Air Force, becoming an aircraft crew chief and ultimately retiring as an E-7 Master Sergeant. His 21 years of faithful service were honored with several commendations, including the World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.

After his distinguished military career, Cy settled in Newnan, Georgia, and worked as an aircraft mechanic with Eastern Airlines until his retirement in 1987. His expertise and dedication to his craft were hallmarks of his professional life.

Cy and his wife, Beverly, were long-time members of Grace Community Fellowship Church, where they found spiritual solace and fellowship. His commitment to service was further exemplified by his active participation in American Legion Post 57 and VFW Post 2667. There, Cy engaged in numerous programs and activities where in enjoyed working Bingo and recognizing veterans. Known for his handiness, Cy started his own small engine repair business where he could often be found fixing lawn mowers and weed eaters for family and friends.

Cy's legacy is carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his sons, Keith Seifert (Dana), Louis Seifert (Terry), and Kenny Kubera; son-in-law, Peter Kolvig; sisters, Helen Vadala and Ruthie Wood; brothers, William Seifert (Nancy) and David Seifert; granddaughters, Haley Mann (David), Katrina O'Bryan (Stacy), Keira Oliver (Robert), and Devyn Wilson (Logan); grandsons, Dale Kolvig (Holly), Keith Kolvig, and Lance and Shaun Seifert; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Beverly Seifert; daughter, Madolin Kolvig; parents, Oswald and Agnes Seifert; brothers, John, Albert, Harold, Urban, Robert, J.R., and Thomas Seifert; and sisters, Mary Kirkwood Babb, Margaret Kinn, Dolores Szablewski, Dorothy Magers, and Alice Magers.

Cy's life was one of unwavering commitment to his country, family, and friends.

A memorial service celebrate the lives of Cy and Beverly Seifert will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Grace Community Fellowship, 75 Roscoe Road, Newnan, Georgia. The service will be under the direction of Pastor Carl Green.

The family would like to thank the staff of Columbus Hospice of Columbus, Georgia, Savannah Grand of Columbus, Orchard View Rehabilitation Center, The Oaks at Grove Park, and Dr. William R. LaHouse for their support and care of Cy.

Prayers and hugs in your loss. I remember when Uncle Louie and Aunt Bev would come home they would come out to see my Mom. When Tim and Jan and Uncle Bob made Apple butter he came back because he said that would probably be the last time he got to help make it.
