Marianne Reider Michael

Marianne Reider Michael, 90, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Marianne was born April 15, 1932, in Tiffin, the cherished only child of Mildred Hoffert Reider and John "Red" Reider.

Marianne was a brilliant student, graduating at the top of her high school class at Columbian High School. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a double major in Music and English. She received her Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Northwestern University. Upon completion of her graduate studies, she moved to St. Peter, Minnesota, for a teaching position at Gustavus Adolphus College, where she met her husband, Dr. George Albert Michael. George and Marianne had three children, Marianne Michael, Elizabeth (Brian) Dolan, and George (Miriam Mayerson) Michael.

Marianne and George lived in Muncie, Indiana, for most of their married lives where Marianne maintained a very successful private piano studio. She was also organist at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Marianne was an avid reader, especially mysteries and biographies, and she loved crossword puzzles. She continued playing and teaching piano until her health necessitated a move to Connecticut to be closer to her children.

She is survived by her children, Marianne, Liz, and George; and beloved grandchildren, Emily Anna Dolan, Molly Elizabeth Dolan, John Michael Dolan, Laura Ann Michael, and William Geoffrey Michael.

Marianne was preceded in death by her parents; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and husband, George.

Dementia robbed Marianne of the joy of watching her grandchildren become adults, but she would have been so very proud of all of their accomplishments.

Marianne's family would like to thank the aides and nurses at Waveny Care Center for their loving care of our mother and grandmother.

Services will be private.

Marianne loved animals, especially her beloved cats, Flossie, Hildie, and Sissy, and donations in her memory may be made to Animal Rescue Fund, 1209 W Riggin Road, Muncie, Indiana, 47304.
