Marlin Black Obituary

Marlin J. "Jake" Black

Marlin "Jake" Black, 97, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Elmwood at The Shawhan.

Marlin was born November 29, 1927, in Adams Township, to the late Clarence and Daisy (Bloom) Black. He married Mary Jane (Gosche), and she preceded him in death. Then he married Norma J. (Lucius), and she also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children, Susan Black of Florida, Kenneth (Peggy) Black of Tampa, Florida, Kevin (Holly Wilson) Black of Denver, Colorado, Denise Black of Gahanna, and Lori (Scott) Lofton of New Albany; two stepchildren, Gary (Rhonda) Marsh of Findlay and Scott (Sandy) Marsh of Bloomdale; four grandchildren, Keshia (Jason) Wright, Stephen Black, Alex and Jordyn Lofton; two great-grandchildren, Logan (Hayley) Wright and Kelsey Wright; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Alma Schmitz of Carey.

Marlin worked at Clyde Whirlpool for 32 years and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Elks, VFW and AMVETS. Marlin was a 1945 graduate of Green Springs High School and also attended Tiffin University and Heidelberg University. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II and was very proud of his service to his country.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; wives; an infant son, David Black; three brothers, Doyle, Cloyce and Burdell Black; and three sisters, Velva Dye, Maxine Herbert, and Betty Fey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin. A Rosary will be prayed 30 prior to Mass at the church. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Burial will follow the service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be rendered by United Veterans Council.

Memorial contribu-tions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools Foundation or Calvert Catholic Athletic Boosters.
