Mary Cochran Obituary

Mary Katherine (Oddou) Cochran

Mary Katherine (Oddou) Cochran of St. George, Utah, and formerly of Tiffin, died Friday, March 17, 2023, in Huntington Beach, California.

Mary was born June 30, 1942, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to Joseph and Ruth (Pelkey) Oddou, and moved to Tiffin in 1946, where she graduated from Calvert High School in 1960. Upon graduation from Ohio University in 1963, she moved to Long Beach, California, for adventure and a teaching career. She earned her master's degree and did post-graduate work at Cal State University, Long Beach. She retired from Long Beach Unified School District as a school psychologist after 39 years of rewarding work.

Mary was a warm, witty, and adventurous person whose love for travel began early in life and deepened while working as a children's counselor on cruise ships, traveling to Alaska in the summer. She later visited many countries and most states. Seldom did Mary pass an art gallery or tchotchke shop without a purchase. She loved animals, rode horses, and played tennis for many years. She was kind and generous, often putting the welfare of others ahead of her own.

In 2005, Mary wed Bramwell "Mack" Sutton and together, they enjoyed traveling the world and the USA and relaxing at home in beautiful St. George.

Mary is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Edgar) Mathias of Stevensville, Maryland; brother, Michael (Brenda) Oddou of Altadena, California; son, Ronald (Meagan) Cochran of Bakersfield, California; daughter, Julianne Theune of Garden Grove, California; stepdaughter, Monica Sutton of Miami, Florida; and five grandchildren, Amy Sackett, Katie Cochran, and Christel, Joseph, and Forrest Theune.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ruth Oddou; and former husband, Farlan Cochran.

Mary's celebration of life will be Saturday, April 29, 2023, at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Los Alamitos, California.
