Mary L. "Booty" Collet
Mary L. "Booty" Collet, 93, of Carey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, January 22, 2026, in the comfort of her own home.
Mary was born at home in Seneca County July 1, 1932, to the late Hilarian "Happy" and Ruth (Coldiron) Haubert. Mary was introduced to Carl E. "Tub" Collet by his parents, and the two were wed at St. Nicholas' Catholic Church May 9, 1953, in Frenchtown. They spent almost 70 years together, enjoying life to its fullest. Carl preceded her in death August 2, 2022.
Mary worked at New Riegel Meat Packing Plant until she retired at 73. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Parish and was a former member of St. Nicholas' Catholic Church in Frenchtown. Mary was a deeply family-oriented woman whose love showed most clearly through her cooking. A tremendous cook and baker, she was especially known for her cookies, homemade noodles, and potato salad; recipes that became family treasures and a source of comfort and joy. Feeding others was Mary's way of saying "I love you," and no one ever left her home hungry.
She found her greatest happiness in her family, rarely missing her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events and taking pride in every milestone. Mary also had a true green thumb and could often be found working in her flower beds, making sure everything looked just right-she was very particular, and it showed in the beauty she created around her home.
A social butterfly who enjoyed the simple things in life, Mary looked forward every year to attending the Bob Evans Farm Festival. She loved feeding the squirrels, who will miss her dearly, listening to polka music, and dancing whenever she and Tub had a chance. Above all, she devoted herself to caring for her husband, Tub, a role she embraced with tenderness and pride.
Mary will be remembered for her generous heart, her welcoming kitchen, and the quiet, everyday ways she made those around her feel loved. Her legacy lives on in shared meals, family gatherings, and her love for her family.
Mary will be GREATLY missed by her children, Barb Dyer of Carey, Karen (Ricky) Allen of Erie, Michigan, Gary (Shirley) Collet of Carey, and Angie Garner of Carey; grandchildren, Tony, Jamie, Jason, Michael, Casey, Nichole, Matthew, Jonathan, Heather, Clint, Justin, Jeremy, Michael, Kyle and Alexandra; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a sister Helen "Jeanie" Kinn; sister-in-law, Wanda Steinmetz; and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Waltermeyer; sons-in-law, Mack Dyer and John McKnight; grandson, Adam; one great-grandson; and siblings, Dorothy Preble, Robert Haubert, Joan Kirian, Theresa Reinhart, Bernard Haubert, Virginia Lonsway-Mockensturm and Donald Haubert .
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay St., Carey, with the Rev. Tom Merrill, OFM, Conv, as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Nicholas' Cemetery in Frenchtown.
