A graduate of Calvert High School, Class of 1951, and Mercy School of Nursing in 1954, Mary was known for her life of service and volunteering, whether in her nursing profession or through various organizations. As a nurse, she had years of service at Mercy Hospital, offices of Drs. Lupica, Pagarigan, and Watkins. After retirement from Tiffin Developmental Center as a nursing supervisor, she substituted in the nursing department at School of Opportunity. She had over 50 years of nursing service.
Mary had been a Brownie Leader, Girl Scout leader, and served as a board member of Calvert Alumni Association, St. Mary's School Board, Allen Airy Senior Center Board and St. Francis Home Auxiliary Board. She had been a member of Catholic Nurses Association and Professional Nurses Association, a Former Lady Knight of the K of C, a member of Serra Club of Tiffin, and volunteered with Red Cross blood mobile for many years, as well as with various other organizations, including those of St. Mary's Church.
She was known for her cooking and baking, especially cookies, and as an Italian custom, one never left her house hungry. She and John loved to travel and discover new and different things to do, and they were always together. They wintered in Florida for several years with friends. When either was on a committee, the other was there helping.
Her family was always her top priority, but she also made time for her personal interests, including her flower garden, reading, sports, crafting, and staying connected with her former high school and nursing school classmates.
Her Mass of Christian burial will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. The rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Mary Rec Room.
