Mary graduated from Concord College in 1950 with a BS in Biology. She received her Master's in Botany from West Virginia University in 1951 and a Masters in ESL from Findlay College. Mary was a part-time adjunct professor at Penn State and Heidelberg College and taught part-time in Tiffin Public Schools and at St. Wendelin, Fostoria. Mary was a life-time member of Trinity UCC and taught Sunday School.
When she wasn't inside taking care of her family, she was outside tending to her many flower gardens or helping Percy harvest organic vegetables. We all looked forward to her homemade healthy feasts at family gatherings. She also liked to sew and could reupholster a couch, create new curtains, or design a pattern for a dress with amazing ease.
Mary could be seen for years in sun, rain, or snow promoting peace at the courthouse corner with her friends from Pax Christi. She was an active member of the Democratic Party and worked passionately for her candidate or important causes. Mary was an avid reader, often sharing her love for books and articles with her family.
A small private family memorial service took place at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory on June 28, 2022, and the public is invited to a Memorial and Celebration of Life from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Trinity UCC.
