Maryl L. Hill

Maryl L. Hill, 66, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at her residence.

Maryl was born Nov. 22, 1956, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Donald B. and Mary Lou (Sherrett) Smith. She married John D. Hill on July 5, 2002, in Columbus, and he survives in Tiffin.

Maryl's other survivors include her sons, Jason Garber of Lancaster and Bryan Garber of Hilliard; daughter, Brittany (John) Mullins of Winchester, Virginia; two stepchildren, Nathan (Laura) Hill of Bucyrus and Carrie (Tom) Leech of Sandusky; 16 grandchildren; and sister, Linda (Mark) Denhard of Boca Raton, Florida.

Maryl was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jeffrey Smith; and sister, Sherren Bowan.

Maryl began her teaching career at Bucyrus City Schools in 1978, which continued throughout her lifetime at Frederick County Public Schools in Virginia, Findlay City Schools, and Director of Student Services at Tiffin City Schools. She received her Bachelor's degree from Ashland University and later her Master's degree from Shenandoah University. She was passionate about working with and advocating for children with disabilities. Maryl was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed traveling with her husband, shopping, socializing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Maryl's funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Lakewood Memorial Gardens in Cheswick, Pennsylvania.
