Max Edward "Pete" Miles

Max E. "Pete" Miles, 78, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and formerly of Tiffin, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 26, 2022, at his home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1944, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Edward and Betty (Shamblin) Miles. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Steinmetz and she preceded him in death. He then married Sheri Barthel on April 29, 2016, and she survives in Spartanburg.

Max's survivors include his wife, Sheri; daughters, Jenni (Rodney) Clinger of Upper Sandusky and Jacki (Bryan) Roper of Pickens, South Carolina; stepsons, B.J. (Kay) Kelly, Justin Kelly, and Logan Morey, all of Spartanburg, South Carolina; stepdaughter, Amanda Kelly of Spartanburg, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sue Hedrick of Bascom and Barbara (David) Hartsel of Tiffin..

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Myles Roper; and a sister Rose Bugner.

Max was a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School. After high school, Max served in U.S. Army and was honorably discharged Sept. 23, 1966. He worked at Allied in Fostoria for 25 years and in 1989, moved to South Carolina. He was a member of V.F.W. POST #9539 in South Carolina and Sycamore Legion Post #250. Max enjoyed making Neon signs, golfing, traveling the world, and casino trips, and was an Ohio State University football fan.

Visitation will be private. Max's graveside service will be 12 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at Sandridge Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Sycamore Veterans.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
