Michael Grant Obituary
Michael Grant
Michael Grant, 78, of Flat Rock, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at his home. He was born October 4, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Rollo and Lenore (Price) Grant.
Michael was a proud graduate of Thompson High School, where he distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete. During his senior year, he achieved the high honor of becoming the state champion in the long jump. Following high school, he attended business school in Muskegon, Michigan, before being drafted into the United States Army in 1967, where he served honorably in the United States Army Military Police. A highlight of his service was being selected to provide security during the 1969 Presidential Inauguration of Richard M. Nixon, for which he received a special certificate of recognition from the Inaugural Committee. After an honorable discharge, Mike married Kay Grubb, August 30, 1969, at Lyme Congregational Church in Bellevue.
Mike lived his life rooted in unwavering faith and selfless love. Providing for and protecting his loved ones was not a duty; it was his greatest joy, especially when it came to his wife of 56 years, Kay. He was a wonderful, devoted husband whose deep love for her shone through in every action, big and small, every single day. He spent more than 40 years working tirelessly, yet he always made time to be present. His weekends were spent on the sidelines of football fields, track meets, at baseball games and wrestling meets, band concerts or school plays, beaming with pride as each child and grandchild took the stage or field. Above all else, Mike was a devoted family man, always providing support for his children and grandchildren. He was employed as a Lab Technician for the former A. Schulman Inc. in Bellevue and also served as a part-time deputy for the Seneca County Sheriff's Department. A man of faith, he was a member of Ebenezer Community Church in Flat Rock.
Mike enjoyed the outdoors and nature. He found joy earlier in life hunting, fishing, and simply sitting quietly, watching the birds and animals. He also developed a love for oil and watercolor painting, spending hours at his easel capturing the landscapes and scenery he adored.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Grant of Flat Rock; sons, Jason (Monica) Grant of Flat Rock and Matthew (Alanna) Grant of Twinsburg; daughter, Ashley (Mark) Hancock of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Mackenzie Grant, Cooper (Hannah) Grant, Major Grant, Bearon Grant, Falyn Grant, Eva Hancock, Owen Hancock, Grant Hancock, and Noah Hancock; and brothers, Larry Grant of Grand Haven, Michigan and Paul Grant of Marquette, Michigan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Connor Grant, in 2020 and a brother, Brian Grant.
Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Ebenezer Community Church, 7500 N Seneca County Road 29, Flat Rock, OH 44828. Military honors provided by United States Army and Bellevue VFW Post 1238 will be rendered following the funeral service.
