Morgan Rees Obituary

Morgan Rowlands "Moe" Rees

Morgan Rowlands "Moe" Rees, 85, of Tiffin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 10, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Morgan was a standout student-athlete, earning 11 varsity letters and serving as a three-sport captain at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), where he graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering. He later earned a master's from WPI and both master's and doctorate degrees in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.

Morgan served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Southeast Asia, then built a distinguished career with the Federal government, starting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and culminating as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works). In this role, he was responsible for federal programs and legislative, interagency and international affairs of the Corps. He worked closely with members of Congress, governors, cabinet members, and private sector executives. He was twice honored with the President's Meritorious Executive Service Award and achieved the highest possible rank in Federal civil service.

After retiring in 1995, he worked as a consultant in environmental and water resource policy, notably with Georgia Ports Authority. Known for his intellect, diplomacy, and integrity, Morgan was a respected leader and peacemaker throughout his career.

He remained active in athletics and church life. He was a Red Sox fan and devoted supporter of his alma mater WPI.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet; son, Brad; grandchildren, Noah and Brynn; sister, Meg; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dave and Rick.

Memorial services will be in Worcester, Kingston, and at Old Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiffin, where he will be interred.

Memorials may be made to the Morgan & Janet Rees Scholarship Fund at WPI.
