Nancy Louise Lucius
Beloved wife and mother, Nancy Lucius, passed away on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at her home in New Washington. She was 85 years old. Born Nancy Louise Borer on May 31, 1937 at home in New Riegel, to Louise Borer, a homemaker, and George Borer, a farmer, she was the eldest of nine children including five brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, Herbert "Herb" Lucius of New Washington, three daughters, Elaine Lucius of Lugano, Switzerland, Anette Lucius of Portland, Oregon, and Cindy Lucius-Correia of Toledo. She is also survived by Elaine's husband, Neil Baker, and daughter, Lucius Baker, and Cindy's husband, Mat Correia, and children, Caleb and Isabella Correia.
A cooking and gardening enthusiast, Nancy loved to be in the kitchen as well as outdoors and shared this passion with others. She also enjoyed sewing and was a seamstress. She was tidy and organized and this extended to her style - Nancy always dressed her best, with her hair and makeup always 'done.' Holidays were also special to Nancy. She decorated her house for every occasion with decorations she made herself demonstrating her creativity and love of crafts. During Christmas, she played endless songs from her unparalleled collection of Christmas albums, always including her all-time favorite, Elvis Presley.
Above all, Nancy was a wonderful, caring mother for her three children, whether listening to them sing as "The Lucius Singers," letting them steal square dances away from her at weddings, or handwriting all her best homemade recipes to share with them. Actively involved in their activities, Nancy devotedly attended all their school band concerts (good and bad), choir concerts, school plays/musicals, school basketball games, and the annual school awards banquets. Imparting her values on her daughters, she always made sure they were dressed well with their hair styled, especially for Sunday Mass. A loving and patient grandmother, Nancy adored her three grandchildren, Caleb, Isabella, and Lucius. Caleb and Isabella had the fortune of living close enough to spend countless days baking, gardening, farming, tree climbing, playing in the basement, and enjoying life in the country. They anticipated and cherished the time spent at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
Nancy met her husband, Herb, when set up on a blind date by a best friend; they married Nov. 9, 1957. They built a house together in New Washington where they lived. Nancy worked as a bank teller at First Federal Savings and Loan in both New Washington and then later in Bucyrus until her retirement. Active in the community, Nancy belonged to Knights of Columbus Auxiliary organization, Attica Library board, and was a 4-H leader. Her love and devotion to others will be greatly missed.
