Sister Patricia Ann Froning
Sister Patricia Ann Froning, 89, of Sisters of St. Francis, Tiffin, died at 7:18 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at St. Francis Home.
Sister Patricia was born October 2, 1935, in Coldwater to Clement and Marie (Sutter) Froning.
Survivors include three sisters, Cynthia Rammel of Celina, Margaret Goecke of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Kathleen Scholes of Fremont, New Hampshire; and a brother, John Froning of Lake City, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Joan Brown, Judith Mescher, and Virginia Stephenson; and a brother, Clement Froning.
Sister Patricia Ann served as an elementary teacher at Millersville, Custar and Seneca East. She was both a teacher and principal at Peru. She returned to the classroom as a student at Xavier University in Cincinnati, where she obtained a master of hospital administration. Upon completing her degree she served as assistant administrator and then administrator of Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
In 1970, Sister Patricia Ann was elected to the General Council of Sisters of St. Francis as councilor and apostolic coordinator. The congregation then called her to serve as president of Sisters of St. Francis from 1974 to 1982. Following her years in congregational leadership, Sister Patricia Ann completed an Internship in Spiritual Direction and Retreats at Jesuit Renewal Center in Milford.
The next phase of her life led her to Kentucky, where she served as a pastoral associate at Holy Name Parish in Henderson and St. Anne Parish in Morganfield. She then moved on to Owensboro, where she served as director of the Diocesan Office for Lay Ministry and Outreach. In 2007, Sister Patricia Ann returned to Tiffin where she was asked to begin the Office of Mission Advancement for the congregation. Since 2009, her ministry has focused on retreat and spiritual direction, care of the library, a variety of congregational history projects, and serving as a Minister of Prayer and Service.
Sister Patricia Ann enjoyed a good card game, playing games on her iPad, and having meaningful conversations with Sisters, family, friends, and strangers she met along the way.
Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2025, at St. Francis Convent Chapel. A Christian Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2025, via Zoom
