Raymond Shank Obituary
Raymond G. "Gene" Shank, 76, of Wayne, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green.
He was born March 10, 1947, in Fostoria, to John H. and Edna Mae (Coleman) Shank. Gene married Dianne E. Harrison on June 16, 1973, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, New Rochester.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dianne; son, Steven (Jackie) Shank of Wayne; daughter, Jennifer (Dave Elwood) Shire of Leo, Indiana; siblings, Margaret Arnold, John (Patty) Shank, and Sharon Griffin, all of Fostoria; grandchildren, Nicholas Shire, Andrew Shire, Lyla Shank, and Autumn Shank; and great-grandson, Grayson Arthur Shire.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna; and sister, Mary (Jack) Abbott.
Gene served his country proudly in U.S. Army during Vietnam where he earned the rank of E6 in the 589th Engineering Battalion and worked as a Heavy Equipment Truck Operator. He worked over 31 years at Fostoria Concrete Products where he retired in 2003. He was a former member of Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338 in Bradner and life member of Elmwood FFA Alumni. Gene had a passion for woodworking, building playhouses for children, enjoyed drinking a good cup of coffee, and his greatest love in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Visitation for friends will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne. Gene's celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Merritt officiating. Burial will be at Graham Cemetery near Wayne with military honors performed by Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338.
Memorial donations may be made to Albert Bowe American Legion or the donor's choice.
