Reed William Ostler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on March 6, 1950, to Stephen Thomas Ostler and LaVern Alice Steadman, Reed was the ninth of eleven children. He spent much of his youth working on the family farm. He attended Bingham High School in Copperton, Utah, where he met and later married the love of his life, Shauna Ostler (Crump). They shared 56 beautiful years together, building a meaningful life in Riverton, Utah, raising two children—Todd and Marcie—who were his greatest pride and joy.
Reed worked for the Rio Grande Railroad, which later became Union Pacific Railroad, dedicating over 40 years of hard work before retiring. He loved spending time in the mountains camping, hunting, and fishing—often bringing his family along to share in the adventure. He especially enjoyed going shooting, crisping off rounds from his treasured collection of old guns. Reed's passion for restoring classic cars became his true calling. He poured his heart and soul into bringing his 1968 Chevelle SS to life, earning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards at local car shows. Above all, Reed treasured time with his family. He created a life full of laughter, stories, and memories that will live on for generations.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Shauna Ostler; his son, Todd Ostler; his daughter, Marcie Saville, who gave him the gift of three beloved grandchildren—Courtney, Austin, and Airionna. Through his granddaughter Courtney, Reed became a proud great-grandfather to LeeArah and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby boy Maverick, whom he will meet in spirit. Reed will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Broomhead Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 PM at the Riverton Cemetery – 1500 West 13200 South, Riverton, Ut.
