Richard Hare Obituary

Richard A. Hare

Richard A. Hare, 91, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

Richard was born July 14, 1934, in Curtice, Ohio, to the late Max Snyder and Labonna May Gustin and later adopted by his aunt and uncle, Harold (Edith) Hare. He first married Barbara Ann (Drew), and they later divorced. On April 20, 1962, he married Grace Edith (Gottfried), and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children, Veronica (Hare) Estrada of Tiffin, Dale (Kathy) Gottfried of Sylvania, Tammy Herrig, Larry (Carol) Gottfried and Michael (Crystal) Gottfried, all of Tiffin, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Richard worked as a Tiffin Firefighter and owner/operator of Richard's Artisan Enterprises and The Colony Sign Shop. He was a member of Tiffin Art Guild and enjoyed art, nature, photography, bird watching and woodworking. He was a 1952 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Cleveland Art Institute. Richard was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea.

Richard was preceded in death by his birth parents; adoptive parents; his wife Grace; and two sons, Allen Richard and Steven Edward Hare.

Funeral services for Richard will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery in Perrysburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tiffin Art Guild or Heartland Hospice.
