Richard H. "Dick" Hayes
Richard H. "Dick" Hayes, 80, of Toledo and formerly of Tiffin, passed peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023.
He was a loving husband, father, papaw, uncle, and friend of many. Anyone that crossed his path knew what a special man he was.
He was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Tiffin, to Harold and Marilynn (Routson) Hayes. He married Camille Borders and had two daughters, Courtney and Whitney. They later divorced. In 1974, he met Wendy Hammond. They were married Jan. 15, 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Hayes of Toledo; daughters, Courtney Mally of Spring Lake, Michigan, and Whitney Carter of Perrysburg; five wonderful grandchildren he immensely loved, Mason Thigpen, Cameron Carter, Sophia and Julia Mally, and Ava Carter; great-grandchild he immensely loved, Maisey Thigpen; brother, Patrick (Connie) Hayes of Tiffin; and sister, Teresa (Todd) Jindra of Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marilynn Hayes; and brothers, James and David Hayes.
He was a graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School in 1962. He served in U.S. Air Force and was a Military Police Officer during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1966.
He resided in Toledo where he became Safety Supervisor Inspector for OSHA for 17 years. In 1989, he started Hayes Environmental Services, Inc. where he provided OSHA safety training and consulting for the general industry companies. He became an expert witness for plaintiffs and defendants and was a Certified Forensic Examiner. He was universally respected by judges and attorneys and a nationally recognized professional. His work led to enhanced workplace safety throughout the country, improving the quality of life and saving lives through his dedication to his vocation.
In June, 2020, he retired. Dick enjoyed traveling and boating. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a huge dog lover and had many special dogs over the years.
He genuinely loved all people and his infectious smile and engaging personality elevated every situation and every heart he encountered. He will be deeply missed by all.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Coci officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by United Veterans Council.
