Richard J. Miller

Richard J. Miller, 87, of Attica, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Mercy Health - Tiffin Hospital.

Richard was born May 2, 1935, in Fremont, to the late Wilber E. and Gertrude (Meyer) Miller. He married Gail (Blaskis) on Sept. 1, 2007, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Attica, and she survives in Attica.

Richard is also survived by three daughters, Tami (Fred) Furlong of Delaware, Denisa Cellar of Worthington, and Michelle Miller of Delaware; son, Michael (Elisa) Miller of Texas; seven grandchildren, Caitlin (Anthony) Filipski, Kelsey Furlong, Margaret, John, and Claire Cellar, Kerri Reece, and Maisen Machiusi; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Raymond and Nora and Joey Filipski; sister, Ruth Ackerman of Fremont; brother Roger (Cathy) Miller of Fremont; and many beloved stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; mother of his children, Carolyn Schlea; their infant son, Steven; second wife, Donna; and son-in-law, Roger Cellar.

Richard was a retired Ohio State Highway Patrolman and was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Attica. Richard enjoyed Muskie fishing, raising roller pigeons, round dancing, gardening, and hunting. A 1954 graduate of Fremont St. Joseph Catholic High School, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Richard was a member of Knights of Columbus and National Birmingham Roller Pigeon Club where he achieved status of Master Flyer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Attica, with the Rev. Joseph P. Joseph officiating. A Rosary will be recited 30 minutes prior to Mass at church. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home, Bloomville. Burial will follow services Tuesday at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Millersville.
