Richard Rochester Obituary
Richard Lee "Roc" Rochester, 90, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024.
Roc was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Tiffin, to Silas and Anna (Strausbaugh) Rochester. He married Shirley (Ball) on April 21, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Roc's survivors include his wife, Shirley Rochester of Tiffin; children, Richard Jeff (Stacy) Rochester of Collierville, Tennessee, and Becky Kegley, Robbi Conner, and Shelly Riedel, all of Tiffin; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Marge Conner, Judy Row, and Jim, Ron, Tom, and Joe Rochester.
Roc was a captain for Tiffin Fire Department, retiring Feb. 29, 1988, after 26 years of service with the department. He was an U.S. Navy veteran, serving during Korea. Roc was a member of Tiffin Amvets Post 48 and Tiffin Art Guild. Roc enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, golf, woodworking, and reading, but his real passion was turning wood bowls. He turned them into beautiful pieces of artwork.
Roc was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, David Rochester and Mary Pat Rochester; granddaughter, Angela Conner; and sons-in-law, Ronald Kegley and Claude Riedel.
Graveside services for Roc will be 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military rites being rendered by United Veterans Council. Visitation for family and friends will be 10-11:45 a.m. Tuesday at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Veterans Council, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Tiffin Art Guild.

I'm so sorry we lost our beloved Richard "Dick" Rochester. I met him thru the Tiffin Art Guild. He was an easy going guy and a great wood turner and craftsman. He had lot to contribute to the art guild as well as the world. He will be missed

Shirley, Gloria and I were very sorry to hear of ROC´s passing. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten. I will always remember ROC in the Woodshop, his many turnings, piles of shavings, and his quick walks around the shop. He was an inspiration to all of us wood turners. We were happy to be your neighbors at SNF. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

"ROC" has been truly part of the Most valued Friend and Fire Family and also Woodworking Family. ROC had a unique ability to engage people in conversations and had a thirst for education and history.
