Dr. Richard Seiler

Dr. Richard Seiler, a respected optometrist and dedicated community member, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

He was born September 28, 1934, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to John and Julia Seiler. Richard attended both elementary and high school in Aberdeen, where his passion for learning and music first shone. He graduated from Northern State University with a degree in Mathematics and Chemistry. He furthered his education at The Ohio State University, earning a Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating magna cum laude.

Dr. Seiler established his optometry practice in Fostoria, which he successfully managed from 1963 until his retirement in 2000. He was a proud 50-year member of the American Optometric Association.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Seiler was an active member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria, where he once served as president of the parish council. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished pianist, having worked professionally as a musician during his high school and college years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha; his children, Julie (Rick) Hamilton, North Ridgeville, Jennifer Wacaser, Raleigh, North Carolina and Richard (Rosalie) Seiler Jr., Frisco, Texas; along with five grandchildren, Jacob, Brandon, Ethan, Brianna and Jack.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Mary Kathleen Seiler.

Memorial Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2026, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. The children also request that notes of condolence be sent to Martha, 341 Lear Road, Apt. 39 Avon Lake, Ohio 44012.
