Risë Marie Labig
Risë Marie Labig, 67, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
She was born January 30, 1958, in Fremont, to Loretta (Fritz) Wise of Old Fort and the late Paul Wise.
In addition to her father, Risë is preceded in death by her father-in-law, John Labig and brother-in-law, Nelson Ball.
Those left to cherish Risë's memory include her loving husband, Scott Labig of Greenville, whom she married July 12, 1980; son, Preston Labig (Allison Mattingly) of Kettering; mother, Loretta Wise of Old Fort; siblings, John (Diane) Wise of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Rene' (Steve) Dumas of Great Falls, Virginia, and Richelle (Todd) Kidder of Cleveland; mother-in-law, Carol (Reigle) Labig of Greenville; and sister-in-law, Sarina Ball of Covington, Kentucky; and numerous nephews.
Risë graduated from Old Fort High School in 1976 and went on to attend Bowling Green State University, where she earned her associate's degree in fashion merchandising in 1980. After graduation, Risë worked at Elder-Beerman for many years. She then worked as a substitute teacher at Ansonia School systems while Preston was in school and in Xerox Sales for several years. Risë was a grain buyer for Andersons for 10 years. Lastly, she worked for Ohio Ag Net and Ohio Country Journal for 15 years, retiring in 2022.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the International Flying Farmers. Risë was a former advisor for the Top Notch 4-H Club, along with her husband. She was a faithful Christian, devoting a lot of her time to her church and God; she could often be found reading her devotionals. Risë belonged to Reverent Church in Greenville, where she was an active member of Church Life Group, which she hosted often. She enjoyed playing the flute and was in the orchestra at Salem Church of God for 20 years. She also played the flute for three years for Easter and Christmas Cantatas at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Piqua.
Risë also enjoyed golfing, hiking, riding bikes, and most recently baking. She especially enjoyed baking bread. Risë had a newfound interest in developing her baking with fresh-milled ancient grains. She also started a co-op for fresh-milled ancient grains.
Risë will be deeply missed for her infectious smile, loving spirit, and deep knowledge. She was well-respected throughout Ohio and touched the lives of all of those around her.
A celebration of Risë's life took place Monday, August 4, 2025, at Reverent Church Worship Center, 1451 Sater St, Greenville. Burial followed at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.
