Rita Marie Schank

Rita Marie Schank, 97, of Tiffin, made her final journey Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 11, 1925, east of Carey, the youngest daughter of the late John and Lenora (Fox) Kummerer. She married Arthur R. Schank on Aug. 17, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2010.

She is survived by three sons, Harold Schank and Ronald (Susan) Schank, both of Tiffin, and Albert (Maureen) Schank of Parker, Colorado; three daughters, Kathleen (Donald) Weaver of Republic, and Marie (Ken) Schroth and Barbara (Eugene C.) Goshe, both of Tiffin; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Joseph (Audrey) Kummerer, Louis (Mary) Kummerer, and John (Dorothy) Kummerer; four sisters, Ruth Kummerer, Agnes (Walter) Reiter, Mary Alice (Ralph) Schank, and Freda (Daryl) Beard; granddaughter, Lauryn Schank Hyden; grandson, Nicholas Schank; and daughter-in-law, Dianne Schank.

Rita was a 1943 graduate of Calvert High School, Tiffin, a homemaker, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, its Rosary Alter Society, Daughters of Isabella, and past president of Know Your Neighbors Farm Women Club.

She enjoyed gardening, baking cookies, and attending the sports events and school functions of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Coci officiating and her nephew, the Rev. Timothy Kummerer preaching. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, or Calvert Catholic Schools.
