Ruth Marie Souder

Ruth Marie Souder, 96, died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, while her daughter, Lori, and their friend, Linda Gutierrez, sang "Jesus Loves You."

She was born July 28, 1927, in Bloomville, to Fred D. and Pearl M. (Stahl) Starkey. She married Raymond Duane Souder on Sept. 13, 1952, at Bloomville Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death Nov. 23, 2014.

Ruth is survived by four children, Dr. Beth Souder (Jeff Michel) of Reedtown, Kristy Miller of Tiffin, Lori Knupp (Craig) of Fostoria, and Timothy Souder (Becky) of New Riegel; grandchildren, Nicholas Miller and his three daughters of Youngstown, Monica Miller and Jonathan Miller, both of Tiffin, Gabriel Souder and Athena Souder, both of New Riegel, and Travis Michel of Arlington, Virginia, and his two sons; sisters-in-law, Velma Starkey of Willard, Ruth Souder of Rocky River, and Barb Souder of Houghton Lake, Michigan; brother-in-law, Edward Souder of Fostoria; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Starkey; and nephew, Joel Starkey.

Ruth was a member of Union UCC of Bascom, Loudon Center Grange since 1958, Pamona Grange and the National Grange, Hopewell Farm Women's Club, and Seneca County Federation and State Federation. Ruth served on the Seneca County Fair board for several years and was recognized for her volunteer work at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

Ruth enjoyed being with her family and friends. She liked camping, crocheting, and visiting with shut-in's and her church family. She enjoyed Seneca County Fair days and nights! She was an amazing cook and wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat! She had a beautiful singing voice and an infectious smile!

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, until the time of Ruth's funeral at 1 p.m. at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio, 44830. Pastor Barb Osborn and Pastor Annette Wellington will preside. Burial will follow at Sandridge Cemetery, Bascom.
