Sally Carey Obituary

Sally Carey, 74, of Mokena, Illinois, passed away on August 20, 2025.

She was born on January 6, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Georgina Haddock. Sally graduated from Rich Central High School in 1969. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Alan Carey, at the Dog 'n Suds in Homewood, Illinois. They married in 1970 and went on to raise their family in Mokena, where they welcomed three children; Sally Christine, Jason Alan, and Lynda Dawn.

Sally devoted her life to her family as a stay-at-home mom and later as a grandmother. She was known for her creativity, her generosity, and the countless ways she made life special for those she loved. Whether it was baking muffins every week, preparing her famous soups, or creating thoughtful homemade gifts, Sally's love was always felt.

Her passion for photography was one of her greatest joys. She rarely left home without her camera and could often be found on the sidelines of her grandchildren's games, capturing action shots that turned into treasured keepsakes. She also loved nature photography and traveling throughout the United States. Every photo, every note, and every homemade gift carried Sally's thoughtful touch.

Sally is survived by her husband, Alan Carey; her children, Jason (Jenn) Carey and Lynda (Michael) Murphy; her son-in-law, Michael Schicker; and her beloved grandchildren, Michael, Owen, Madison, Matthew, Wyatt, and Lorelei, her brother John Haddock, and several other family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Schicker; her parents, John and Georgina Haddock; and her sister, Georgina Sidwell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home in Mokena, Illinois. A service celebrating Sally's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Road, Elwood, Illinois, 60421.
