Sally J. O'Connell, age 91, of Toledo, died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Hospice of NW Ohio, Perrysburg.

Sally was born in Tiffin, September 27, 1933, to John R. and Mary Alice (Mathias) O'Connell.

Survivors include a brother, Tim (Karen) O'Connell of St. Petersburg, Florida; nieces and nephews, Linda (Rick) Wibright, Bonnie Wall, Sean (Tammy) O'Connell, Amy (Mark) Nelson, Maureen (Don) Metzger, Michael (Joanne) O'Connell; and several great nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Patricia (Robert) Wall.

Sally graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1951, earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mary Manse College in 1955, and her Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Toledo in 1964. Sally had various teaching positions; The American School in El Salvador, Central Catholic High School, Toledo, and the University of Toledo, from which she retired in 1990 as a Professor Emerita. She also worked in the Anti-Poverty Program in Toledo, serving as Director of Social Services.

Sally was elected to "Outstanding Young Women of America," "Who's Who in American Education," and "Who's Who of American Women." She was a proud Democrat and served as Democratic Precinct Committee Women. Sally also volunteered in various capacities; CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), Citizen Review Board, Women Blessing Women Board, and Ursuline Associate Board. She was a member of the Catholic Interracial Council, served as a surrogate parent, and volunteered at Bethany House.
