Shirley R. Counselman

Shirley R. Counselman, 91, of Tiffin, passed away at 8:46 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green.

Shirley was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Toledo, to the late Wilmer and E. Ruth (Young) Markley. She married Donald R. Counselman on Dec. 28, 1952, at Bethany Memorial Church, and he preceded her in death May 30, 2009.

Survivors include her children, Randall (Sue) Counselman of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Ruth (James) Harnden of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Susan (Mark) Westphal of Bowling Green; nine grandchildren, Ginette (Corey) Mueller, Bethany (Robert) Schmelzer, Joseph Harnden, Matthew Harnden, Kathryn (David) Beyer, Nicholas (Karie) Westphal, Jason (Shellie) Lawrence, Alexis (David) Skoczyn, and Travis (Jael) Lawrence; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Shirley worked as a home economics teacher at Riley Township in Clyde and later retired as an elementary school teacher for Tiffin City Schools. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tiffin where she enjoyed singing in the choir and being an active member of United Methodist Women. Shirley graduated from Bethany High School in West Virginia and later graduated from Muskingham College.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Shirley's funeral will be 10 am. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, with Pastor Meg Boger officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at the funeral home. There will be no burial at this time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice or Tiffin Seneca Public Library. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.shookfamilyfh.com.

Sympathies to family. Enjoyed visiting at St. Paul's with Shirley and Don many Sundays. Memories of our children growing up together. Very nice family. Hugs to all.

I met these two when I worked for comfort keepers in tiffin and I would stay the night to take care of don. I´ll never forget his home remedy Shirley made of Pepsi and chocolate syrup in the middle of the night. They were the sweetest most loving couple I ever met
