Stephen Hickman Obituary

Stephen G. Hickman

Stephen G. Hickman, 68, of Tiffin, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at Arbors of Sylvania.

He was born Sept. 23, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland, to George "Pete" and Joyce "JJ" (Jones) Hickman, who preceded him in death. He married Brenda L. (Durst) on Oct. 24, 1992, at Bascom United Methodist Church, and she survives in Tiffin.

Stephen's other survivors include his daughter, Desiree (Ryan) Weller of Bascom; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Annemarie, William, Samuel, Rylynn, and McKenna; and sister, Sharon (Daniel) Frey of Florida.

He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School in South Carolina and attended Clemson University. Soon after, he chose to dutifully serve his country and joined U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Minot, South Dakota, working on the flight line. He gained valuable skills during this time working as a Mid-Air Refueler during Vietnam. Stephen's dedication to the knowledge of metallurgy later helped him excel in his career as a Tool and Die Journeyman after his time in the service. The tools of his trade carved many paths of success in his life. While he established hands-on mastery in Tool and Die, he also forged the foundation of a wonderful marriage of 32 years. He met the love of his wife, Brenda, at Allied Signal, where they both worked at the time. He moved to Ohio after leaving Allied to marry Brenda on Oct. 24, 1992. Stephen finally retired from Whirlpool in Clyde as a Tool and Die maker in 2022.

His love of Harley's sparked his creativity to paint motorcycles on the side, some of them still on the road today! He enjoyed attending grandkids' sporting events, spending time with his grandkids, camping, and fishing for that "big one" at Heritage Springs. Some of his favorite past times were looking for a laugh while telling jokes and stories by the fire. He was a dedicated Cleveland Browns and Ohio State fan. Stephen was a member of Bascom United Methodist church and Tiffin Amvets.

As a kind and loving husband and hard-working man with a strong faith in God, he offered life skills to his grandkids that will be cherished forever. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting this soft spoken man.

Private family visitation will be at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin.
