Stephen Smith Obituary

Stephen C. "Steve" Smith

Stephen C. "Steve" Smith, 79, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at The Willows at Tiffin.

He was born Sept. 20, 1944, in Fremont, to Webb and Lois Jean (Russell) Smith. He married Susan K. "Susie" Runion on Oct. 9, 1965.

Steve's survivors include his wife, Susie Smith of Tiffin; son, Jeff (Amanda) Smith of Tiffin; daughter, Christy (Randy) Wiser of Tiffin; sister, Susan K. Ringle of Indiana; four grandchildren, Abigail (Kory) Young, Olivia (Grant) Hammond, Mitchell Smith, and Jacob Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Nyla Young, Brexley Young, and Maxwell "Wells" Hammond.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve graduated in 1962 from Tiffin Columbian High School and later received a Bachelor's degree from Tiffin University. He served in U.S. Army Reserves from 1962-1966. Steve started his career off working in sales at Tiffin Enterprise and later became part owner. After 25 years, he moved on to a sales position at Pilliod Furniture in Swanton and then as plant manager at their branch in Meridian, Mississippi. His family then moved to Indiana where he worked at Avery Corporation. Steve and family missed Tiffin so they returned back home and he worked for NeoWood Products. Upon the closing of NeoWood Products, Steve accepted a sales position with Sauder Furniture. In 2008, he retired from Sauder Furniture in Archbold. After retiring, he worked at SoySolv.

Steve and his wife belonged to many car clubs including The Midwest Gas & Brass Auto Club, The Vintage Motor Car Club of America, and Model T Club. When the weather cooperated, Steve could be found with his family on an antique car tour and in colder months, he would take an ocean cruise with his family. Steve also enjoyed the Hershey Flea Market and Car Show with many family members and friends over the years. Steve loved his dog, Zoe, and loved spending time with his family. You could always find him in his garage tinkering with the cars and polishing brass.

Per Steve's request, there will be no funeral.

The family is very thankful to the staff at the Willows who have become friends and family over the past two years.

There will be a Steve Smith Memorial Car Show from 12-3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Willows.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or The Willows at Tiffin Enrichment Program.

Steve was always ready to help anyone with no expectations in return. He always had his little notebook to jot down important things he wanted to remember. A beautiful man and soul. He will be missed.

Linda and I send our condolences to Susie and the family. Steve was a great individual with a forever smile, and sparkle in his eyes. He's now with the angels, and at peace.

Although I never had the opportunity to know Steve personally...I heard so many wonderful stories that Susie shared about Steve and her family on our senior bus trips. Steve was lovingly cherished by his family during his illness and is now at peace.
