Steven E. "Gene-O" Rau

Steven E. "Gene-O" Rau, 85, of Old Fort, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.

He was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Old Fort, to Jacob and Nola (Todd) Rau. Steven married Mildred "Annette" Edwards on July 25, 1965, at Old Fort Church, and she preceded him in death Nov. 22, 1992.

Steven served in U.S. Army from 1961-1963 and was awarded the Sharpshooter Badge (M-1 Rifle) and Good Conduct Medal. He was a truck driver and enjoyed tractors, NASCAR, and socializing. He was a member of Green Springs American Legion and Green Springs VFW. Steven volunteered for Old Fort Fire Department and Seneca County Military Honor Guard Detail for several years.

Steven is survived by his daughter, Kim (Keith) Bagley of Old Fort; stepson, Steven (Bernie) Emmons of Kansas, Ohio; stepgrandchildren, Derick and Jason Rau, and Nanette Reid.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Annette Rau; stepson, David Rau; and infant sister, Dorothy Rau.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home, 211 N. Broadway St., Green Springs.

Steven's service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Quinter officiating.

Burial will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with military honors provided by United Veterans Council of Seneca County.
