Susan Thompson Obituary

Mary Susan Thompson, age 75, of Bel Air, Md. passed away peacefully at home with her brother, David, at her side on March 26, 2025. Susan was a life-long resident of Bel Air, Harford County. She was the daughter of the late J. Roger and Margaret (Burkins) Thompson and the granddaughter of the late Elder F.E. and Maude Thompson and Charles M. and Catherine Burkins. Susan was a 1968 graduate of Bel Air High School. She had a long career working at Edgewood Arsenal and Aberdeen Proving Ground.

She was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Primitive Baptist Church where her grandfather, Elder F.E. Thompson, preached. Susan touched the hearts of many with her kind and caring personality. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies which she shared with her co-workers, family, and friends. Susan loved being around young children and treated them as her own. Susan had a large doll collection featuring Barbie dolls, especially the holiday collectibles.

Susan is survived by her brother, W. David Thompson and wife Marilyn (Crowl); brother-in-law, Joseph B. Lyons; sister-in-law, Ennice Thompson and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and one great-grand niece; as well as her dear friends, the Mark and Chrissy Humes family. In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her sisters, Terri Thompson and Jayne Lyons, and brothers Stephen Thompson and Mark Thompson.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to her angel care givers, Chrissy Humes, Grace Lanchek and Mary Jo McClelland. They enriched Susan's life and cared for her with love. The family also wishes to thank the Gilchrist Home Hospice care team for their guidance and care.

Donations in memory of Susan may be sent to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Visitation and a Celebration of life service will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Rd., Street, MD 21154 on Saturday, April 5th. Visitation 12pm to 1pm, Celebration of Life service at 1 pm. Intermittent to follow at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, 809 Rockspring Rd., Bel Air, Md.
