Thomas P. Bryon
Thomas Paul "Cody" Bryon, 70, originally of Old Fort, passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at Mercy Health - Tiffin Hospital, after residing at St. Francis Home since September 2024.
Tom was born January 5, 1955, in Fremont, to Paul Lewis and Betty Jane (Heilman) Bryon. He grew up in Old Fort, on the banks of the Sandusky River, and spent much of his youth boating with his parents on Lake Erie, experiences that sparked a lifelong love of fishing. Whether he was in his boat on the river or reservoir, ice fishing in the winter, casting off piers, or traveling to fishing spots in Michigan, he was happiest and most at home with a fishing pole in his hand.
Tom also enjoyed mushroom hunting, taking his grandkids on tractor and ATV rides, grilling, gardening, and watching and attending Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Ohio State games. A fan of classic rock music, he often reminisced about concerts he attended in "the good old days." Tom had so many stories to tell, he never passed up a chance to laugh with friends and family and have a good time. He was strong-willed, but always kind and willing to lend a helping hand. Those who knew him will remember his strength, his humor, and his heart.
After graduating from Old Fort High School in 1973, he worked for Decko Products in Sandusky and briefly in Santa Cruz, California. In 1979, he began working at Excel Wire and Cable Co. as a journeyman millwright until its closure in 1999; he then continued his career at National Electrical Carbon (Morgan Advanced Materials) until 2008, when he was involved in a pedestrian-vehicle accident that led to early retirement. Tom had a natural ability to work with his hands and fix just about anything.
He married Patricia (Terry) and later divorced; together, they had four children, who he is survived by, Stephanie (Daniel) Dawson, Jamie (Jonathan) Williams, Ashley (Todd) Miller, and Jordan (Heidi) Bryon. He was a beloved grandfather to Jaren, Jadyn, and Jalyn Dawson; Nathan Williams; Nolan, Aversyn, and Urban Miller; and Lucy and Lakelyn Bryon. He is also survived by his mother, a brother, Don Bryon, sisters, Paulette Day and Dee Bryon, a nephew, Donald Bryon, and many other family members on his former in-laws' side. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Tom was preceded in death by his father; a brother-in law, David Day; and a niece, Danielle Bryon.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at Davita – Seneca Dialysis and St. Francis Home for their compassionate care, patience, and willingness to help in Tom's final years.
A celebration of Tom's life will be at a later date. Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting family with their arrangements.
In lieu of flowers and donations, the family encourages you to spend a quiet morning by the water, casting a line in Tom's memory.
