Wade R. Cover

Wade R. Cover, 84, of Carey, passed away quietly the first day of spring, Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at home during a sunny afternoon after a brief illness.

Wade came into the world as a blue-eyed bouncing baby Aug. 6, 1939, the first-born child of Richard W. Cover and Jessie V. (Wade) Cover. Wade graduated from Fostoria High in 1957 where his classmates named him class flirt.

In 1960, Wade married Carolyn Nye and began building a family of three boys with the arrival of Kirk, Matt, and Grant between 1961 and 1966. While Wade spent most of his working years at Union Carbide in Fostoria, opportunity knocked in 1969 in the form of assisting in the opening a new plant for Union Carbide in Puerto Rico. Wade moved his young family there in 1970 and he and Carolyn took advantage of the balmy breezes and beaches and welcomed many visitors to their home during that time.

Upon returning to Ohio in the early 70s, Wade developed a passion for snowmobiling, boating, and general merry making. Through the 70s and mid-80s, countless weekends were spent at the family's cottage in Long Lake, Michigan, where laughter, libations, and good times were served aplenty.

Life changed on several fronts for Wade in the mid 80s through mid 90s. He found himself both retired and divorced (but remained lifelong friends with his first wife, Carolyn, which his children thank them both for). Wade had the good fortune of meeting Janice Bennington and spent the next over 30 years building a life together. Wade and Janice enjoyed traveling to Alaska on multiple occasions and spending time in Amish country, visiting flea markets, mowing the yards, and working on house projects together. Wade also developed a passion for flying (and crashing) remote control airplanes, going to Put-in-Bay, and restoring his beloved 1946 Willy's Jeep with the help of his son, Matt.

Sadly, Wade developed Lewy body dementia and entered into hospice care in Feb., 2024.

Wade is survived by his longtime companion, Janice Bennington of Carey; children, Kirk Cover of Bradenton, Florida, Matt and Dobi Cover, both of Fostoria, and Grant Cover and Mark Phillips, both of East Durham, New York; grandchildren, Brian (Laura) Cover of Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Matthew Cover of Fostoria; sister, Mar Jean (Cover) Kazarosian of Henderson, Nevada; and great-granddaughter, Everlyn Cover of Fostoria. Additionally, Wade will be missed by Janice's children, Kara Smith and Brad (Christine) Bennington. Finally, Wade was, for all intents and purposes, a grandfather figure to Pierce and Lincoln Smith, as well as Jack, Allie, and Porter Bennington, who kept Wade on his toes throughout his senior years.

There are no services planned. However, a celebration of life will take place in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wade's name to Bridge Hospice, Blanchard Valley Health System.
