William Charles Porter, Jr., 66, fondly known as "Charlie," passed away on February 4, 2026, in his hometown of Beeville, Texas.
Charlie was born June 13, 1959, in Beeville, Texas to Norma Jean (Burns) and William Charles Porter, Sr. He was a 1977 graduate of Mathis High School where he was an active member of the Future Farmers of America. After high school, he attended Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde, where he was a member of the college rodeo team. While there, he enjoyed going to jackpot ropings.
He married Roxanne McCameron on August 8, 1980, in Beeville, Texas; a memorable union that coincided with the arrival of Hurricane Allen in Corpus Christi.
Charlie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Beeville, The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association, a member of the Foundation Black Mouth Curr Breeders Organization, and a past member of the Bee County Horse Club.
His greatest love was his wife, children and grandchildren. He was happiest when all the grandchildren were visiting, playing outside, and helping him feed, set traps and put out hay. He made sure to always spoil them with a popsicle or an ice cream sandwich. He enjoyed trips to Rockport with his wife Roxanne, breakfast with friends and hauling and working cattle. He loved planting serrano and chile pequin peppers then picking them for his wife to make her award-winning hot sauce.
For more than 15 consecutive years, Charlie took great pride in helping Morgan, Maegan and Allie in their many Bee County Livestock Show projects. After retirement, he spent most of his time enjoying the great outdoors with his dogs, horses, barn cats, and making sure his yard was pristine. He took great pride in the way his home and property were presented. Charlie never met a stranger and seemed to know someone wherever he went. He was fluent in Spanish from his many years working on ranches all over South Texas and known for his intuition, cow dogs, and his love for O’Brien horses.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Chamrad; his father, Charlie Porter, Sr.; and stepfather, Don Chamrad.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Roxanne; his son, Morgan (Amanda) Porter; daughters, Maegan (Stephen) Kosub and Allison (TJ) Wilburn. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Emmaleigh Joy, James Morgan, Katherine Elizabeth, Cameron Michael Porter, Mason Lucas, Kase William, Parker Timothy, Elsie Frances Kosub, Clara Rae, Thomas Charles and Heston Warren Wilburn; as well as his sisters, Kim (Steve) Huddleston, Lisa (Craig) Hardin and Kara (Russel) Wood.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville with a Rosary to be recited at 5 o’clock led by Deacon Santos Jones.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville with Father Richard Gutierrez officiating. Burial will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
