Maggie Merriweather departed this earthly life on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Western Reserve Hospice House of
Cleveland, Ohio, after a brief illness. She was born in Somerville, Tennessee on February 14, 1932 to the late Bennie and Mary Wilson.
Maggie was one of eleven children with 9 preceding her in death; Willie C. Wilson, Henry Wilson, Frankie Jones, Gertrude Key, Johnnie C. Wilson, Jimmie Lue Giles, Edward Wilson, Rebecca Bowers and Robert Wilson. She is also preceded in death by two step children; John Merriweather Jr. and Alfonso Merriweather.
Maggie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Travel Rest Baptist Church of Somerville, Tennessee.
Maggie was united in Holy matrimony to Willie Price and to this union one child was born, Dora.
She later united in Holy matrimony to the late John L. Merriweather and moved to Cleveland in 1953. Maggie went to cosmetology school and became a beautician where she excelled in her craft, and opened her own shop. She was a member of Ohio Association of Beauticians, Inc., where she was an Executive Board Member and chaired many committees. Maggie traveled to the State convention every year until her heath failed her.
Maggie joined The Elizabeth Baptist Church in 1955 under the leadership of the late Rev. Fred Hall until he answered his call to Glory. She remained a faithful member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, serving under Pastor Richard M. Gibson. Maggie was a devoted member of the Usher Board Ministry. She served as vice-president for several years, serving faithfully until her health declined.
One of Maggie's passions was traveling; international and domestic. It was not uncommon for her to take vacations two to three times a year. She loved taking her grandkids on vacation during their younger years. She was a lover of people and loved to create an atmosphere for good times, often hosting dinner parties for family and friends.
Maggie leaves to cherish her memory, one loving and devoted daughter, Dora Bolden of
Cleveland, OH; one loving sister, Olivia Wilson of Jackson, TN; two loving and devoted grandchildren, Michelle Bolden and Lavelle Bolden (Serena); three adored great grandchildren, Devon Bolden (Shayla), Nakelle Bolden and Kierra Bolden; three great-great grandchildren, Kameron, Hazel and Devon Zymir; special loving and devoted nephew, Junior Wilson and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
We are grateful for a life well-lived and we rest in our hope that we will see her again.
