Andrew Clint Wheeler, cherished husband, Daddy, Pop and crew chief, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born in Lafayette, Georgia, he was the son of the late Clint Marvin Wheeler and Joyce Boling Wheeler. As a child, Andrew moved through three states and attended 13 elementary schools before graduating from Chamblee High School in May of 1968. Following his graduation, he joined the National Guard and then started a career with Southern Bell (AT&T). Andrew met the love of his life, Carolyn Claudette McGaha, in the fall of 1969 at the McDonald’s on Buford Highway in Doraville. They were married on February 4, 1972, and Andrew showed his romantic side by taking her to the Gator Nationals for their honeymoon. He adored Carolyn, and he affectionately referred to her as “Doll” until she gave birth to their two children. Brenton Dale Wheeler was born March 25, 1975, and Lindsey Drew Wheeler was born July 13, 1977. Carolyn became “Toots” once she became a momma. Andrew supported Carolyn’s entrepreneurial pursuits when she opened Carolyn’s Communications, a 24-hour a day, seven-day-a-week answering service, in 1981. To fulfill his need for speed, Andrew began drag racing with his family’s old 1974 Dodge Charger, and until recently, he was still racing in a 1967 Dodge Coronet Wagon. Andrew retired from AT&T in 2000 and became CEO of Carolyn’s Communications in 2001. While at the helm of Carolyn’s, he drank unsweet tea, watched an unbelievable amount of drag racing videos, read the newspaper and took frequent naps. When not at the racetrack with his son, granddaughters and racing family, he enjoyed relaxing in St. Simons at The King and Prince with Carolyn, and he thrived on time spent as Pop with his seven grandchildren taking fun rides on the golfcart wherever they were.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Claudette McGaha Wheeler; children, Brenton Dale Wheeler and his wife, Jessica, and Lindsey Drew Wheeler Barron and her husband, Brandon; grandchildren, Payton “Dayle” Wheeler, Preslie Wheeler, Parker Wheeler, Izzy and Ally Wheeler, Jack Barron and Katherine “Drew” Barron and a host of other relatives and friends.
