We announce with heavy hearts the passing of our dear Mother, grandmother and great grandmother who graced this world from November 1929 until her peaceful passing at the age of 95. Born in a modest house in
Idalou, Texas, she grew up facing early loss with the passing of her sister during her teenage years-a challenge that only strengthened her compassionate spirit.
The foundation of her life was her faith in Jesus. A steadfast Christian, she was deeply involved in her church community from the early days, becoming an original member of the Auburn St. Church of Christ, which later became Indiana Church of Christ. Her faith guided her through life's joys and hardships, and it was reflected in the way she nurtured and cared for everyone around her.
Her first marriage to Herschel Miller blessed her with five children-Joe, Jana, Judy, Jill, and Jerry. She adored being a mother, always dreaming of a big, joyful family. Although life brought sorrow with the loss of her son Joe in his young adulthood, she remained a pillar of strength and love for her family. After Herschel's passing, she found companionship once more with Walt Shields. Together, they enjoyed many years of marriage filled with travel and shared adventures, as well as the warmth of their large, combined family.
In addition to her family roles, she was an avid crocheter, an enthusiastic game player, and lovingly crafted baby blankets for her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many others -a testament to her creative spirit and endless care.
Preceded in death by her sister Doris, her son Joe, her first husband Herschel, her grandson Tyler, her second husband Walt, and her great grandson Eli, her legacy is one of resilience, faith, and unwavering love. She will be profoundly missed by her children, grandchildren, their spouses, and many great grandchildren, but her spirit and the memories she created will continue to inspire all who knew her.
