Dorothy Raye Parrish (known by many as granny, “DOT” or Mrs. Dot., )was born Dorothy Raye McDonald to Sam and Lucy McDonald on January 26, in 1934. She was the 4th (daughter) of 10 children born to that union. Born in Bynum Texas she was raised in Lubbock, Texas. She married Artis Lee Parrish and eleven children were born to this union.
Dorothy’s family includes several “unrelated loves”. She touched several lives in her work, church, and daily life. She knew that through-out life she never walked alone. God was with her through every joy, celebration, trial or tribulation, through high points and sinking sand, every birth, and every new adventure. As you read this short excerpt from her favorite poem and reflect on your own life in the hardest times and the best of times know that we do not walk alone.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lucy McDonald, six sisters Ruby, Della Mae, Vada, Zella, Paula Bobby Jean, one brother Robert, one daughter Cassandra Ivory, one son Darrell Parrish, one grandson Matthew, and one son-in-law Jimmie Hollie.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, JoAnn Hollie, Diane Snell, Cheryl McDonald, Debra Parrish, and Michelle Murphy, her daughter-in-law Rebecca, her sons Artis Parrish (Dana), Damon Parrish (Donna), Robert Parrish (Sherrill), and Michael Parrish, her brothers Rev. Milton McDonald, and Elder Dilton McDonald (Linda), 32 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
