Janie McLain Dillard passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. Her parents were Marion Condra McLain and T. C. McLain. Born in Shallowater, Texas, on October 25, 1931, Janie eventually moved to Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High School. She then went on to graduate from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She married Dennis Dillard, and they continued to live in Lubbock.
Janie was involved in PTA, Ballet Lubbock and traveled with Chrysalis through St. Christophers Episcopal Church. She enjoyed bowling, tennis, playing cards and was a voracious reader. She was co-owner of McLain Oil Company and worked in the family business for over 25 years. Janie was truly the backbone of her family. Her strong faith was passed on to each of her family members.
Janie is survived by four children, sons, Dennis, Jr., Jeff, and Jay and daughter, Kathy Orr (Barry), all of Lubbock; grandchildren, Jack Dillard, Jami Dillard, Kati Dillard Walker, Hayly Dillard Hext, McLain Dillard Rhoads, Mary Kathryn Dillard, Allyn Orr Piland and Alex Orr; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The Dillard family will celebrate and honor the life of Janie with a private service at a later date.
A special thanks goes to the Fountain Hills Assisted Living Staff for their kindness and compassion. The family is also extremely grateful for Hospice of Lubbock (Cassandra Justus and Chaplain Elizabeth Abraham).
