Jerry Wayne Beck was born in Marks, Mississippi, on August 13, 1959, to his loving parents, Flora Beck and Rosevelt Jones (who preceded him in death).
His mother moved the family from Mississippi to Chicago, IL, and later to Boston, MA, in 1964, making it his home. Jerry spent most of his childhood in Boston, MA, where he was raised affectionately by his mother and grandmother until they departed this world. He grew up as a very productive, educated, business-focused, and charismatic young man that was well-known and respected by many. Jerry had the "Gift of Gab"; he spoke with confidence and intelligence, and when he spoke, people listened and had great conversations.
Jerry was a true scholar and was dedicated to his education. He attended Boston Technical High School, receiving his high school diploma in May 1977. He was an honor student and would be dissatisfied if he received anything less than an "A" in school. Jerry continued his pursuit of academia at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, where he obtained a double major in Accounting and Finance and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in May 1981. Additionally, throughout the years until now, Jerry always stayed up to date in accounting and finance changes in the industry.
Jerry had a long and extensive business professional career in Accounting and Finance. There was no job that he did not exemplify pure excellence in his field of work. His negotiation and communication skills were a gift. This was evident in his first job at JC I as a Senior Credit and Collection Specialist in Chicago. He managed debt portfolios such as commercial, medical, and governance accounts, negotiating and collecting over twenty-five thousand dollars in revenue. He later worked for Wayne Corporation, where he quickly climbed the corporate ladder as director of the collection department for over fifteen years. Whether in accounting or finance, he always exhibited leadership qualities in roles such as being a financial contractor, Bay Bank, and Pesk Company, as a Senior Financial Analyst, Enterprise Rental Car Supervisor, and New England Auto Delivery Lead Vehicles Transporter.
Jerry loved to mentor and support many who looked up to him as a father figure. He was affectionally known by many as "Uncle Jerry." He especially loved and took pride in raising his nieces (Sherika, Monique, Diamond, Molesha, Shalia), nephews (Willie, Martin, Montel), cousins, and godchildren (to name a few). He was devoted to ensuring they understood the value of education and would bring them to school and pick them up. He encouraged them to further their education beyond high school. Also, Jerry loved to travel and take the family on long road trips to Chicago or Indiana (to name a few). Jerry was our "Big Protector"; there was not an issue that he could not negotiate or settle for his family or friends. He received unspoken respect from the Boston community. Jerry understood the true meaning of friendship and brotherhood as evidenced by lifelong friends Jeffery Turner, Tony Mitchell, Ralph Anderson, and Darrell Myles. Jerry truly loved his family and friends.
In the early morning of Monday, February 24, 2025, God called Jerry home.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Flora Beck, grandmother, Pearl Kern, brother, Willie James Beck, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by sisters Linda Beck and Aretha Beck both of Boston, Massachusetts. Nieces Sherika Beck, Monique Phillip, Diamond Beck Molesha Jenkins and Shalia King of Boston, MA, and nephews Willie Beck, Martin Phillip, and Montell Phillip of Boston, MA., Uncle Lloyd Robinson, Sr. of Chicago, IL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, and friends.
