Oleta Hamby Obituary

Oleta Fae Hamby, born on March 29, 1938, in Quanah, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, just one day shy of her 87th birthday. She was a devoted educator, holding a Bachelor's Degree from Texas Tech University, making a profound impact on the lives of her students throughout her teaching career. Oleta cherished her family above all, particularly relishing the moments spent watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren thrive and enjoy life.
Oleta was a woman of many passions; she found immense joy in gardening and took delight in cooking for her loved ones. Her enthusiasm for the stock market was notable, and she enjoyed collecting antiques and exploring estate sales for hidden treasures. She loved entering them in the Lubbock County Fair and won many ribbons. A longstanding member of the First Baptist Church, her faith in Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with others.
She is survived by her daughter, Loeta Mays, and son-in-law, Keith Mays; her son, Tony Hamby, and daughter-in-law, Tamara Hamby; as well as her grandchildren: Suzanne Pals, Carissa Bleecker, Kathryn Crawford, Justin Hamby and LaKrisha Smith; ten great -grandchildren. Oleta will be fondly remembered for her caring spirit, her deep love for her family, and her adoration for her little Maltese dog, Sadye, whom she pampered with affection.
A graveside service will be held in her honor at the City of Lubbock Cemetery on April 1, 2025, at 10:00 am, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and legacy. She will be laid to rest in a place of peace, remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Oleta was preceded in death by her parents, Opal Butts and Marvin Butts.
