Celebrating the Life of Ricky Tadlock
Born on November 24, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas, Ricky Tadlock was a man whose life was a testament to hard work, unwavering faith, and deep family love. Raised by Melvin and Betty Tadlock, Ricky's roots in Lubbock ran deep. From his early days at Lubbock High School to decades of service in road construction, his journey was marked by passion, innovation, and a heart that touched all who knew him.
Ricky's story began long before he became a leader in his field. At the tender age of 11, he joined his father on job sites, absorbing lessons of craftsmanship, responsibility, and determination. Even as a young student balancing academics at Lubbock High School, he carried a work ethic that would define his future.
For more than 50 years, Ricky devoted himself to the Lubbock County Road Construction Department. His career was not just a job-it was a calling. As a supervisor and specialist, he became renowned for his expertise in handling large road equipment and his innovative approach to designing new machinery. Colleagues admired his hands-on ability to solve problems, ensuring that every road he helped build was a testament to quality and safety. His contributions transformed local infrastructure and left a lasting impact on the community he so dearly loved.
Beyond the construction sites and blueprints, Ricky's life was rich with diverse interests. He was an avid fisherman who sought solace by the water, a creative artist whose drawings captured the beauty of everyday life, and a master cook and grill artist who delighted family and friends with hearty dishes. His youthful spirit shone through in daring pursuits such as bull riding.
Ricky's love for baseball was a defining passion. A standout player at Lubbock High School, he showcased a talent that many believed could have led him to a professional career, a promise further evidenced by his participation in a local men's league. Equally, his commitment to faith extended beyond the construction sites-Ricky embraced bus ministry, regularly riding the church bus to minister to children and encourage them to come to church. His children, who cherished those rides, looked up to him as both a guide and a hero.
His zest for life was also evident in his playful pursuits. Ricky loved roller skating, dazzling onlookers with his ability to perform jumps and tricks effortlessly. He was a formidable pool player and expressed his musical side by playing the piano, singing tunes like "You Are My Sunshine," and even turning everyday moments into a concert by whistling or tapping rhythms on kitchen counters.
Not only a skilled craftsman and creative soul, Ricky was also a mentor who guided boys into men. Known for his soft heart, sweet nature, and honest character, he carried a mischievous twinkle that brightened every room. A Godly man whose faith was the cornerstone of his life, his selflessness and kindness resonated with nieces, nephews, and friends alike. He inspired everyone around him with his readiness to lend a helping hand and his ever-present smile.
Family was at the heart of Ricky's existence. On April 9, 2005, he married his beloved Sherri Claunch in a heartfelt ceremony at the Lubbock County Courthouse Gazebo, surrounded by family and friends. His love for Sherri, along with the joy he found in his daughter, Misty Tadlock, and his son, Ricky (Amy) Tadlock, Jr., step-son, Ron Harmon and wife Ashley after Ricky Tadlock Jrenriched his life. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren-Chandler Burrell, Taylor Tadlock, Chase Garner, Lexi Tadlock, Jocelyn Garner, Keegan Tadlock, Weslyn Tadlock, Emmy Stenno, Jackson Harmon, and Reid Harmon, as well as in his siblings, Melvin (Donna) Tadlock, Jr., Candy (Jackie) Cochran, Jeane Simms, and Bobby (Jaime) Tadlock, with his memory forever linked to his beloved sister, Vickie Duke, who preceded him in death.
Ricky Tadlock's life was a mosaic of hard work, creative passion, and heartfelt compassion. He built more than roads-he built a community, a family, and a legacy grounded in faith, humor, and generosity. His contributions, both on the job and in the lives he touched, will forever be remembered as a shining example of what it means to live life fully, work with passion, and love unconditionally.
Ricky's journey reminds us that a life well-lived is measured not only by the milestones reached but by the love shared and the lives enriched along the way. His memory will continue to inspire and guide all who had the privilege of knowing him.

It was great getting to know Rick as a part of God's family many years ago at Peace Tabernacle. Being young during that time of our lives we were crazy and had a lot of fun. It is hard to believe we made it this far with permanent injury. We are praying for the Tadlock family and believe the peace of God to be with you all.

You have our deepest sympathy. Ricky was truly a great person. I always enjoyed selling mix and materials to him while worked at the hot mix plant and it was real nice working for him with the county. He always tried to keep everyone upbeat no matter how tough things got. He 'will' be missed.
