Virginia Luman Obituary

Virginia J. Luman, beloved Mother and Grammy, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on March 19, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on November 16, 1954, in Canyon, TX, Virginia dedicated her life to being a mother first while also serving her community. She began her career at the Slaton Police Department in the early 80's. Virginia had many roles over the years, beginning her career as a Communications Dispatcher, she was deservingly promoted to Communications Supervisor. After 18 years in Communications, Virginia attended SPAG and obtained her Peace Officer Certification with the encouragement of family and fellow officers to become a Detective in Criminal Investigations. Virginia served as a Detective and Patrol Officer until her retirement at 25 years of service. Having savored her retirement for a time, she grew eager to return to work and became employed by Lynn County Sheriff's Office as a jailer.
Virginia was a hardworking and devoted mother to Angela (Larry) Rocha and Morgan Luman, and a cherished Grammy to Mason, Tabor, and Jerry. She was the loving sister of Cecilla (Ray) Lightfoot. As a single mom, Virginia faced challenges with unwavering strength and love, always putting her family first.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Zella Morgan.
Known for her friendly smile and warm personality, Virginia became a friend to many. She loved visiting with everyone, lending an ear and offering advice when needed. She was a loyal and dedicated person, easily earning the affection of all who knew her. Virginia's passion for life was especially evident when visiting with her grandkids or attending their sporting events, cheering them on.
Virginia's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved and touched throughout her life. She had a heart for helping therefore her family suggests memorial donations be made to the Lubbock or Slaton Meals on Wheels in her memory.
