EDWARD SAMANSKY Obituary

Just moments before the day's end on March 5, 2025, Ash Wednesday, Edward Joseph Samansky left here for Heaven. After a lifetime spent strong in faith, there is comfort in the fact that his passing took place on such a spiritual and significant day. We'd like to think it brought him a sense of peace as he said goodbye.

Born and raised in Vallejo, Ca on September 29, 1945 to Elizabeth (Essy) and Joseph Samansky, Eddie Joe, as he was often called by family and friends, was the oldest of four children. His school years began at Steffan Manor Elementary School, later graduating from Hogan High School, Class of 1964. Between the two, he was a Boy Scout, played Little League Baseball, had good friends, cool cars and cute girlfriends. Family was at the center of it all and the most important part of his life. He made sure to take good care of them. He was a kind and caring man with a good and giving heart. He was always ready to help. He could fix and do anything. You need it, he's got it! Probably two. It brought him joy to share what he had with others - tools, tomatoes, pomegranates, Tums. At Christmas, it became tradition that he would gift mint coin sets to the younger nieces and nephews. An investment that would grow in value, slow and steady over time, which speaks to the way he lived his life. He was a collector and keeper of things. As kids we were in awe and envy of Uncle Eddie's impressive, magical collection of marbles. And he never did lose them. He had a great sense of humor and way of storytelling with a laugh that still rings here. Donned in a pair of shorts and a polo shirt, even on the coldest of days. He had a love and appreciation for a good (hot) meal and dessert, especially the family recipes made special by his mom. And he was grateful - always following up with a thank you call.

After joining with friends here in the 1970's, Napa became home for more than 50 years where he enjoyed a nice life tending to family, friends, church, work and some traveling throughout the years. He was honored and proud to be an Usher at St. Apollinaris Church and for his time spent working at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and Marine World Africa Usa before ultimately working for himself.

The last several years, Eddie was grateful for the special care and support he received that enriched and bettered his days and life. A special thank you to Terry Samansky for going above and beyond in caring for his brother. And to Patty Blum Samansky for her love, care, support and generosity, as well as that of her family. Also a warm thank you to his caregiver Elizabeth, who cared for and loved Eddie as if he were her own family. A love that was mutual.

Eddie was predeceased by his father Joseph Samansky, mother Elizabeth Samansky, sister Patty Samansky, brother-in-law Rex Gilbreth, and nephew Brian Gilbreth.

He is survived by his brother Terry Samansky, sister-in-law Patty Blum Samansky, brother Michael Samansky, sister-in-law Rochelle Samansky, niece Michelle Mecchi, nephew-in-law Jason Mecchi, niece Janelle Samansky, nephew Collin Samansky, great nephew Tyler Mecchi, great niece Reese Mecchi, and great niece Layne Mecchi.

We miss seeing him, reminiscing and catching up on old and new. Whether on the phone or in person, Eddie would usually greet you with, "Hey Kid!" or "Hi Sweetheart!" and something about hearing that made you feel special. He was special, loved and will be missed very much, especially at family birthdays, get-togethers and holiday gatherings, which will forever be changed. Hope you get free and unlimited channels as you rest easy up there. Love you.

I have so many memories of Eddie Joe since I was a toddler and now I´m in my 40s. He was my mom best friend. He was there for us when my dad passed playing catch with me. Taking my sisters and I to marine world and then throwing up after one of the rollercoasters. Fixing stuff around the house and then being at his house with all his marbles. He had me help him replace a roof in Vallejo. And then when my mom got sick and was in the hospital he came sat with us and called to make sure we all were ok. After my mom passed away 5years ago on Christmas Day we would call and check on each other every week. I´m heart broken that he´s gone but happy that we will see him again.

Dear Terry,
I'm sorry to learn of the passing of your brother Edward. I have no doubt but that he was as great as is described in your tribute to him.

Uncle Eddie was my Godfather. A position in life he took to heart. In a lot of ways, he was the last puzzle piece of my life that linked back to my father. At 47 years old, there isn´t a single stage of my life where I don´t have an Uncle Eddie memory. I will hold these memories close as I will certainly miss him. I´m very grateful to have had him in my life and to have him as an example of how to live mine. Please say high to my dad for me.
I´ll miss you and love you!

Oh I am so sad to hear this news about Eddie. Yes, he was all these things written, and I know his whole family as well as friends will feel that empty space & that constant smile. I know that his sister Patty, who I miss so very much, was there with open arms to welcome him "home". Rest peacefully Eddie, it´s time to take it easy. Sending my love and prayers to you "kids" that I know will smile at the memories he leaves you

Eddie was a dear friend. He and my husband, Howard where close friends. He was always there for me after Howard passed away. We went on a couple of cruises together. The Alaska cruise was the best. He will be greatly missed.
