Barry M. Kaufman
Barry M. Kaufman, 73, of New London, died Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Akron, May 16, 1952, son of the late Nathan and Pauline (Roth) Kaufman. Barry was a 1970 graduate of Firestone High School. He began his education degree at the University of Findlay, where he obtained his bachelor's degree in 1975 and master's degree in 1978 from BGSU.
Barry was a familiar face and name around the New London area, which he called home for more than 30 years. Not only did he work at New London Local Schools, but he also shared his love of education with Bettsville School District, Morgan Local School District, and Nord Middle School in Amherst. Barry spent many years teaching 3rd through 6th grade, later transitioning from classroom to administration office when he became Elementary Principal in New London. An enthusiastic educator, Barry held a special place in the hearts of those he taught with special needs. As a science teacher, he loved hands-on experiences, particularly making model rockets with his students. Barry also enjoyed continuing education classes.
A devout Catholic, he was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and Knights of Columbus in New London. Barry had the heart of a servant and was very involved in many local community organizations. He served as an EMT, was on the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary, and served a term on New London Village Council.
Barry is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Christine (nee Kimmet); sons, Joshua Kaufman of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Daniel (Alex) Kaufman of Cincinnati, and Benjamin (Tia) Kaufman of York Springs, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Lela, Nathan, and Celia; and a sister, Beth Sanger of Kent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeannine Kaufman, and brother-in-law, Robert Sanger.
Friends and family will be received from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London. A Rosary Service will take place prior to visitation, starting at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday July 28, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 18 Park Ave, New London. Burial will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in New London.
Donations in Barry's memory may be directed to either the Church or a public or school library of the donor's choice.
