John R. "Tobe" Anway

John R. "Tobe" Anway, 87, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at The Willows at Tiffin.

John was born May 11, 1937, in Republic, to the late Harry B. and Mary L. (Rickenbaugh) Anway. He first married Sandra Jane (Anderson), who preceded him in death. He later married Marge (Alpay), and she survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include two sons, Stephen (Dianne) Anway of Huron and Thomas (Amy) Anway of Tiffin; stepchildren, Suzan (John) McCrystal of Columbus, Sera (Fabio) Leonessa of Maryland, Coral (Bob) Nelson of Columbus, and Deniz Alpay of Virginia; 16 grandchildren, Morgan (Rachel) Anway, Vincent (Sara) Anway, Logan and Collin Anway, Justine Frankart, Shelbi (Connor) Jump, Kylee (Brayden) Palm, Kaitlyn Ledwedge, Lauren (Sam Papadakis) McCrystal, Connor McCrystal, Chloe, Lilly and Max Nelson, Isabella and Daniela Roccasecca, and Austin Goyburu; four great-grandchildren, Kaia Anway, Avery and Garett Frankart, and Harper Jump; and a sister, Kathryn Berlekamp of Tiffin.

John was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Sandra; and a sister, Harriet Kessler.

John was a lifelong farmer and a 1955 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Tiffin, Masonic Lodge, a volunteer fireman with Clinton Township Fire Department, a former Tiffin Farmers Co-Op board member, and a charter member of Republic Area Investment Club. He and Marge had a special bond and enjoyed time with their Thursday night dinner club. John will be remembered mostly for the love he had for his family.

Funeral services for John will be at 10 a.m.Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville, with Pastor Amy Vittorio officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services Thursday at Farewell Retreat cemetery in Republic.

Memorial contribu-tions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or The Willows of Tiffin.

Steve and Tom and families: just a word of thought s and prayers for you all. I have such fond memories of activities and classroom experiences with you. Your mom and dad reminded me of my parents. We were a farm family with very busy times, but they always showed up at every game and activity. Good thoughts.
