John D. Nye

John D. Nye, 78, of Bettsville, passed away at 9:34 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay surrounded by his loving family.

John was born January 22, 1944, in Fremont, to John J. and Lucille (Cramer) Nye. He married Mary Ann (Schade) in Michigan February 27, 1965 and she preceded him in death February 17, 1993. Also, preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Tom Nye.

Survivors include his two sons, Bob (Laressa Grundy) Nye of Fremont and Bill (Kim) Nye of Curtice. He is also survived by a sister Marcia Nye of Findlay and his loving companion of 20 years, Sue Hamilton of Bettsville. John had four granddaughters who adored him, Kendra Nye, Brenna Nye, Regan Nye, Adrienne Nye, and a great-granddaughter, Nina Sharp who also survive.

John was a 1962 graduate of Bettsville High School and a member of Zion United Church of Christ Church in Bettsville. John worked as a welder at Century Die Company in Fremont where he retired after 42 years. He still enjoyed regular breakfasts with his former coworkers. John loved the outdoors. He enjoyed biking, taking walks, and spending time in his backyard where he watched the birds at his bird feeders and took care of the fish in the Koi pond he built in his yard. John enjoyed bowling and was also a racing fan. He spent many summer nights at Fremont Speedway with his friends. John loved to tinker in his woodshop. He built many things with precision and love for his family. After his retirement, John and Sue happily spent many winters at their home in Bradenton, Florida.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the caring staff at Bridge Hospice for the exceptional care given to their father in his final days.

Funeral services for John will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Bettsville. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Saturday at Trinity cemetery.
