Joseph Marovich Obituary

Joseph G. Marovich

Joseph Gregory Marovich, 79, of Tiffin, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at home with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Anita of Tiffin; two sons, Joseph A. (Joy) Marovich of Tinton Falls, New Jersey and Matthew Marovich of Florham Park, New Jersey; a daughter, Michelle (Bryan) Kidd of Reidsville, North Carolina; a sister, Mary Ann Champa of Painesville; and four grandchildren, Justin and Trevor Marovich of Tinton Falls, New Jersey and Hunter and Leah Kidd of Reidsville, North Carolina.

Joe was born June 12, 1945, in Cleveland, to Joseph and Mary (Gregory) Marovich. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two pre-born children. Joe married Anita Elchert, a native of New Riegel, Nov. 28, 1969.

Joe attended St. Joseph's High School in Cleveland and received a BS in education from the University of Dayton and a master's degree in catechetical theology at Manhattan College in the Bronx, New York. He was the director of Religious Education in Short Hills and Tenafly, New Jersey, and taught at Holy Cross High School, Bayside, New York, and Paramus Catholic High School, Paramus, New Jersy. He worked in the real estate industry as a salesperson, a broker, a teacher, and as an expert witness for lawyers in real estate lawsuits. He worked for Murphy Realty/Better Homes and Gardens on the local and regional levels and later opened his own school to teach advanced real estate courses.

Joe was very active in church ministry with adult education, lectoring, cantoring, Mass server, the choir, and in spiritual formation programs studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Life in the Spirit, the charismatic movement and TMIY. He was a director of the non-profit Our Lady of America Devotion which promotes devotion to Christ's Mother as Our Lady of America, a great favor to the people of America.

In Aug. 2014, Joe and Anita retired to Tiffin, becoming active members of St. Mary Catholic Church and Tiffin Right to Life. Joe loved movies, camping, travel and working with the Boy Scouts. His favorite trips were to Rome, the Holy Land and Hawaii. For their 50th wedding anniversary, Joe planned a memorable three-week tour of the National Parks in the West for Anita. Music was Joe's passion. He played piano and accordion; he could "Roll out the Barrells" of music for hours. If you listen carefully, you might hear his booming voice singing among the angels on high before the throne of God. They might even be dancing the polka!

So sorry to hear that Joe passed. Did not find out until today. Would have been special to share stories with his family. I went to high school with Joe and he and I were in the large group of graduates who joined the SM and went to Marcy, and then Mt Saint John under Brother Louis Weber. As sophomores were were then under Brother Walsh. This is went we were both involved with Bill Habjan in installing theater movie projectors in various SM High Schools. What a time we three had. On Saturday nights many of us would polish our shoes for Sunday. I would put the polish on and then let the shoes sit and the polish dry for 30 minutes. Joe would always yell at me and tell me that was not needed. Of course I told him my shoes polished more than his. So very long ago...sophomore year at University of Dayton. As Juniors we were under another Brother (? Name escapes me, but he ran the library). We were no longer involved in installing movie projectors so we did not do as much together. At the end of our Junior year we all were sent out to teach at various high schools run by the Society of Mary. I went to Chaminade in Dayton Ohio. Don´t know where Joe went. After that I only learned what Joe was up to via The Common Bond. I did see that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer I believe and was planning to contact him with well wishes. I kept putting it off. Sorry my dear friend from decades ago. I can extend wishes to his family though. I could not believe when I read that Joe was involved in singing in church choir. Especially in our freshman year at Mt St John we all heard Joe singing at our daily mass services. Why you ask? Because he ALWAYS sang a half note faster than all the other 50 of us or so. Drove us crazy. He said it was to speed us up during our singing. I have not really kept up with friends from those days. Wish I could reconnect with some. If you are one of them please email me at [email protected]
Rest in peace Joe and to his family...Joe was very special.

I´m very saddened to learn of Joe´s passing.
Joe was always upbeat and a patient and caring mentor.
I shall be forever grateful for his guidance during the days of real estate work and fondly recall his driving the Murphy staff to the Wednesday broker open house offerings.
A really good guy.

Dear Anita, I am sorry for your loss of your Joe. I want to thank you for reaching out to the St. Veronica prayer chain to let us know. John and I will certainly keep his soul in our prayers as well as you and your family. I have memories of Joe singing and lecturing and you and him bringing Our Lady Of America devotion to St. Veronica. I will never forget the procession of the statue coming down Route 9 and into our church. I also have to tell you the creeping phlox and azaleas you planted in front of St. Veronica Church are still going strong. May the Lord continue to bless you and keep you in the palm of his hand.
