Margaret Zoll Obituary

Margaret Zoll

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Zoll, 87, of Findlay, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was born May 6, 1937, in Tiffin to the late Claude and Johanna (Gurney) Funkhouser. Peggy married John J. "Jack" Zoll November 27, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. Deacon "Zak" preceded her in death May 12, 1998.

Peggy graduated nursing school from St. Vincent's, Toledo, in 1958. She worked at Tiffin Mercy and Findlay Blanchard Valley Hospital (now Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center) and for the State of Ohio as a Peer Review Medicare-Medicaid auditor. She retired from BVH in 2009. She continued patient care, volunteering at Blanchard Valley's Eastern Woods Outpatient Center until 2020, following her retirement from BVH.

Peggy is survived by eight children, John (Mindy) Zoll of Clermont, Florida, Terri (Bill) Werling, Cindy (Tony) Lahey, Cathy (Dick) Hachey, Anne Velasquez, Mary Martin, Steve (Donna) Zoll, all of Findlay, and Jackie (Lee) Basile of Temple Texas. She has 33 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by sons-in-law, Dean Martin in 2013 and Dan Velasquez in 2024; and great-grandson John Walter Zoll in 2014.

Peggy is also survived by brothers, Tom (Joan) Funkhouser of Toledo and Bob Funkhouser of Tiffin; and sister-in-law Mary Lou (Zoll) Hohman of Tiffin.

She is preceded in death by Marcie Funkhouser, Leo and Betty (Zoll) Smith, and Mr. Gene Hohman, all from Tiffin and Susie (Zoll) Luckhardt of Findlay.

Peggy, along with her husband Jack, were devout and life-long practicing Catholics. Peggy's efforts reflected her faith tenants of service to God through service to others. She endeavored to bring those around her home to God with her. A balance of joy and discipline is reflected in her patient care, her teaching of others, and her volunteer efforts. Singing accompanied her efforts through much of her life, teaching her children and leading others in worship. Her compassion extended through her efforts to comfort others in their own bereavement and physical struggles, walking the journey of life with those suffering loss of loved ones, coordinating efforts of others in St. Michael the Archangel parish in that work, even extending both physical and emotional care to others through missions abroad. Her deep faith in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist led her to serving others through the distribution of the Holy Eucharist to her parish in liturgical celebrations and to those home-bound with infirmaries, there combining all of her heart's service of feeding physically, emotionally, and spiritually the needs of others. Scripture was her constant companion, nourishing herself with the Gospel, then passing it on with her husband to their children and family and returning to it constantly with others through study to fully refresh themselves with scripture's daily bread. Her example continued through her last years and even her final hours as she taught through example how to marry her pain and suffering to that of Christ's on the cross and offering all of her suffering for the sake of our souls.

Peggy, your mother, grandmother, great grandmother, was a wonderful friend of my mother and long time St. Mike's teacher, Marge Ryan. Your mother was also wonderful to me, sending cards and notes of hope and strength in God as I have battled cancer for over 9 years. She was an earthly treasure who has left a path of light for the rest of us to follow.

I´m so sorry to hear of Peggy´s passing. I got to know her quite well when she became a favorite client of mine when I worked at AAA. I would help her with her trips to visit family in Texas and elsewhere. She was a delightful, sweet lady and I know will be deeply missed. Many prayers for God´s peace and comfort at this difficult season.
