Robert Mortimer Obituary

Robert "Bob" William Mortimer

Robert "Bob" William Mortimer, 79, of Fostoria, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026. He was born October 29, 1946, at home to Elsworth and Ruth (Coppus) Mortimer.

Bob attended Fostoria High School. He then proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969 aboard the U.S.S. Bennington during the Vietnam War. During his service, he traveled the world and was honored to be part of the Apollo 4 recovery mission, an experience he remembered with great pride.

On December 4, 1970, Bob married the love of his life, Jennifer (Whitman) Mortimer, after just six months of dating, a true match made in heaven. Together, they built a life centered on love, hard work, and family. They raised three daughters, April (Ryan) Hull, Audrey (Allen) Weinandy, and Ashley (Josh) Wagner. He was a proud grandfather to Cale, Brock, Addison, Luke, Lincoln, David, and Penelope, who brought him immense joy.

Bob is survived by his sister, Norma (Mortimer) Reinhart; mother-in-law, Mary (Shultz) Whitman; sisters-in-law, Beth Montgomery, Peg Whitman and Annette Mortimer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Mortimer; brothers-in-law, Steve and Mike Whitman.

Bob worked at Bishop's Auto Body, Modene, and Reinhart Auto Body, where he dedicated 47 years. He even received Best Bodyman of the Year once. Known for his strong work ethic, he passed those values on to his children and grandchildren, always leading by example.

In 1971, Bob and Jennie began building the home they would spend the next 55 years in, creating a place full of memories, laughter, and love. He enjoyed telling his famous "dad jokes," playing the violin, drawing, carving wood, and lending a helping hand to anyone in need.

Bob cherished life's simple pleasures, watching sunsets in the backyard, reading, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and taking family camping trips. On those trips, he earned the beloved nickname "Bike Ride Bobby" from his grandchildren.

He was a member of American Legion Post 733 and a familiar, friendly face at the Smokehouse, where he enjoyed weekly visits with his friends.

Bob will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Memorial services will begin at noon Friday, April 17, 2026, at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Pastor Amy Kinney officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Fostoria, with military honors by United Veterans of Fostoria. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's honor to Seneca County Honor Bus, in appreciation of the special trip he was recently able to take to Washington, D.C.

Online condolences may be sent to Bob's family at www.hffh.net

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Lunch will be served after services at American Legion Post 733 in Bettsville.
