Bernard J. "Bernie" Tiell

Bernard J. "Bernie" Tiell, 88, of Tiffin, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at Tiffin Rehabilitation Center.

Bernie was born Feb. 5, 1935, in Seneca County, to Charles and Irene (Homan) Tiell. He married Julia Schetter on Oct. 15, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and she died July 25, 1982.

Bernie's survivors include four sons, Thomas Tiell and Francis Tiell, both of Tiffin, Kenneth (Julie) Tiell of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Christopher Tiell of Tiffin; two daughters, Theresa (Charles) Hall of Pitkin, Louisiana, and Charlotte (Bryan) Gibson of Jackson, Michigan: 11 grandchildren, Michelle DeWeese, Christina Guynn, Michael DeWeese, Kimberly DeWeese, Thomas Beekman, Jamie Coulombe, Branden Beekman, Ace Crawford, Gloria Tucker, Jeremy Crawford, and Julia Tiell; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Howard (Shirley) Tiell of Tiffin and Carl (Sandy) Tiell of Toledo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, James Tiell; daughter, Lora Tiell; and brother, Harold Tiell.

Bernie was a 1953 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, was in U.S. Army Reserves, and retired as a letter carrier for U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was an avid bowler, golfer, fisherman, carpenter, and woodworker.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at TRAUNERO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113.

Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. prior to Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. The rosary will be recited 30 minutes prior to Mass at the church. Burial will be private at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
